What do you enjoy doing most in your leisure time?

Many years ago when I was about 15 years old or so I began to teach myself how to draw and write. These two activities would grow to be my go to activities to do in my leisure. The peace they bring me as well as the possibilities they afforded me captivate me in a way only LEGO had before.

A personal accomplishment for me is that I have published book one in a multi-book novel series that I am writing. The Chosen: Breaking Bonds was written and illustrated by me. This was a passion project that grew into reality from practice in both areas in my leisure time.

Writing

Growing up I was a kid who struggled with reading and in turn writing as well. I would shudder at having to do either while in school. But while in high school I began to slowly dedicate time to both and eventually I found myself comfortable with one but enamored with the other.

I would often find myself writing short stories in multiple notebooks and on random pieces of paper. I fell in love with the idea of creating a universe from scratch. From coming up with the characters and setting to the storylines and interactions. This would entice me to start a novel series. Over time the more I wrote the better at it I would become.

Drawing

Drawing has always been one of those things that I did most of my life but never really thought much about. That was until I was a teenager and wanted to give these characters and things in my head a tangible form. I was terrible at it at first but through much trial and error I refined my skills to a point I’m pleased with.

My approach to drawing is one that sees me content but never satisfied. I’m always striving to get better and take my art to that next level. In these recent years I’ve been really exploring the other half of my artwork and trying new art mediums to further broaden my horizons as an artist.
